Founded in 1993 on East 60th Street in Manhattan, DORJON began as a boutique hair salon created by my parents, Dorothea and John — the name itself combining both of theirs into one identity. Rooted in the energy and culture of New York City, the salon became known for its creative spirit, attracting artists, celebrities, and high-profile clientele who valued individuality and personal style.
My mother, a visionary hair colorist, built a reputation for transforming hair into an extension of self-expression, blending creativity with refined luxury. Surrounded by fashion, art, and the constant evolution of New York culture, DORJON became more than a salon — it became a culture.
Years later, my passion for archive fashion, vintage garments, and New York City downtown nightlife inspired me to continue the DORJON legacy through clothing. Through years of styling rappers, musicians, and creatives, I became deeply involved in helping shape their image and visual identity, curating pieces that reflected individuality, confidence, and cultural influence.
Working closely with emerging artists and well-known rappers gave me firsthand insight into how fashion can influence perception, energy, and self-expression, ultimately inspiring me to create my own brand. Influenced by my archive collection and a deep appreciation for vintage garments, I wanted to build something that carried the same creative spirit my parents established decades earlier while reinterpreting it through a modern lens.
The transition from hair to fashion felt natural — both are rooted in identity, confidence, and self-expression. While my mother worked as a hair colorist, styling the hair of celebrities and affluent clients during New York's influential fashion era, I now continue that legacy through fashion, image-building, and design.
DORJON represents the intersection of luxury, archive-inspired design, and the evolving spirit of New York City.
